FDOT to accelerate Orlando Roadway projects around Reunion and Champions Gate

Ron Desantis announced an initiative, called Moving Florida forward, where the FDOT will expedite 20 infrastructure projects. These will include multiple I-4 expansions around Reunion and Championsgate, according to the article written by Richard Bilbao of the Orlando Business Journal.

If passed, this initiative would invest a total of $7 billion over the next four years to strengthen the infrastructure to accommodate the growing number of people that rely on Florida’s roadways. “Expediting these projects should bring them to completion more than a decade ahead of schedule,” said Desantis.

The roadways that may be affected are:

Interstate 4 from Champions Gate to Osceola Parkway ($1.45 billion)

Poinciana Parkway Extension Connector from County Road 534 to State Road 429 ($1.31 billion)

Interstate 4 at State Road 33 interchange ($197 million) Interstate 4 from U.S. 27 to Champions Gate ($635 million)

You can find more information on the projects by visiting the initiative’s website here. Florida is home to more than 22 million residents and saw more than 105 million visitors over the first nine months of 2022.
